BN manifesto aims to guard Malaysia's borders, both physical and in cyberspace

KUALA LUMPUR: A slew of initiatives have been planned to safeguard Malaysia’s borders, both physical and in cyberspace.

A Cyber Defence Operations Centre (CDOC) under the Defence Ministry will be set up to guard Malaysia’s cyberspace and defend critical national assets from cyber-attacks. As for Malaysia’s physical borders, Barisan Nasional plans to implement the National Immigration Control System (SKIN) nationwide to strengthen its border control system.

There will also be an increase in control posts and monitoring systems along the Malaysian border to prevent incidents of smuggling and human-trafficking as well as terrorist threats.

To increase effectiveness in eradicating drug-trafficking, gambling, triads and organised crime, police elite corps such as the Special Tactics and Intelligence Narcotics Group (STING), Special Task Force on Organised Crime (STAFOC) and the Special Task Force for Anti-Vice, Gambling and Gangsterism (STAGG) will be transformed.

High crime areas will also be given special attention by increasing the number of high definition closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV HD) in such locations. There will also be an increase in the number of Voluntary Patrolling Scheme members to increase security controls and preserve the peace in areas with high crime rates.

The 1Malaysia Resident Community grant initiative for all residents’ associations will be continued to enable the purchase of security equipment and implement crime prevention programmes.

BN also aims to boost community involvement in crime prevention through police initiatives by using the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol application. Safe communities will also be made a priority with the increase in security patrols in public housing areas in cooperation with residents and expanding the number of Rakan Cop and trained auxiliary policemen to support crime prevention efforts in neighbourhoods.

The welfare of veteran soldiers and their families is also a priority, with the construction of the country’s first Armed Forces Veterans Hospital in Ipoh, which will benefit 300,000 veterans.
