SEGAMAT: The Segamat Economic Development Action Plan (SEDAP) launched tonight is a long term holistic plan to enable the economy of the district to be more prosperous and dynamic.
The incumbent for the Segamat parliamentary constituency, Datuk Seri S.Subramaniam said the plan (2018-2023) would cover various aspects including infrastructure development, tourism industry and digital infrastructure.
In the tourism sector, he said Segamat was expected to be developed with an agro biotechnology and biomass centre in line with its vast oil palm network as well as its status as Johor agro based development zone.
He said the plan was also aimed at bringing various industries to Segamat besides ensuring human resource and entrepreneurial development requirements were sustained.
“All this is done to ensure it is in line with the recent announcement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak which placed Segamat as a new growth area in Johor,” he said.
Dr Subramaniam, who is also Health Minister, told this to reporters after launching the plan at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Segamat here tonight.
The MIC president also said efforts to develop Segamat was not a new story as it had long being undertaken by the Barisan Nasional (BN) government in stages.
Hence, he urged the people to continue giving the mandate to the BN in the 14th General Election (GE14) to ensure the plan would be successfully implemented. — BERNAMA
