64-year-old temple in Segamat catches minor fire last night

SEGAMAT: A 64-year-old temple, one of the oldest temples in Segamat, caught fire last night.

Bandar Baru Segamat Fire and Rescue Department Operation Centre spokesman said the 8.25pm fire broke out on the front and the roof of Ci Kuang Ting temple in Jalan Genuang, destroying six per cent of the portion of the premises.

He added that a team of 10 firefighters from the Bandar Baru Segamat Fire and Rescue station was deployed to the scene to control and put off the fire.

"No injuries were reported during the incident. The fire also involved ritual paraphernalia," the department, said in a statement, adding that the investigation is ongoing to identify the cause of the incident.

Ci Kuang Ting temple, which has been around since the 1960s, is a historic temple and is one of the tourist attractions here.
