SHAH ALAM: Police have recovered the high-powered motorcycled used by two men in the murder of Palestinian lecturer Dr Fadi M.R. Albatsh in Setapak on Saturday.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun confirmed the find but declined further comment as investigations were still ongoing.
“Yes, we have found the motorcycle which we believe was used by the killers. However, I cannot tell you anything more,” he told reporters after a working visit to the Selangor police headquarters for a briefing on preparations for the 14th general election.
It is understood that the motorcycle, a Kawasaki Versys, was found near Tasik Danau Kota about 1pm.
Sources said the motorcycle had been left abandoned against a fence surrounding the lake, behind the Jalan Danau Niaga commercial centre since Saturday.
They said checks revealed that the motorcycle was registered under the name of a Malaysian.
“Members of the public were suspicious that such a motorcycle would be left there several days and so they informed police. A team from the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters and Wangsa Maju district headquarters was sent to the location.
“The team cordoned off the area with police tape and called in the Forensics Unit and Bomb Disposal Unit, just in case,” said one source.
Fuzi said police were also looking into several other leads following statements taken from several witnesses who had come forward to aid the investigation.
On whether the assassins were still in the country, he said he was unable to confirm whether or not they were.
“We don’t have their particulars... all we have are the photofits of them, which have been distributed to every single exit point. However, they could have left through illegal exit points,” he said.
Fadi was walking to a surau near his home for subuh prayers when one of two men on a motorcycle fired at least 20 shots at him, hitting him 14 times.
