Tithe payment rate for Muslims in FTs set at RM7: Ku Nan

PUTRAJAYA: The tithe payment rate for Muslims in the Federal Territories has been set at RM7 this year.

The rate was announced today by Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, who also presented appointment letters to 880 tithe collectors (amils) for this year.

He made the announcement prior to presenting an allocation of RM6.9 million from the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) to more than 600 mosques and suraus to carry out activities during Ramadan.

Located in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan, each mosque will receive RM12,000; while suraus are allotted RM10,000 each.

“With the allocation, sourced from zakat collections, the mosques and suraus can do more activities for their congregations during the fasting month.

“The ministry and MAIWP will also work together to hold breaking-of-fast programmes at 13 Parliamentary constituencies, and provide aid to the underprivileged,” said Tengku Adnan.
