Melaka teen dies after suffering severe allergic reaction to bee stings

MELAKA: An asthmatic teenager died from a severe allergic reaction after being stung by bees in Alor Gajah on Monday.

Muhammad Farid Haizad Sufian, 18, was with his friend at Jalan Air Paabas in Alor Gajah when his left hand was stung by bees at 5.30pm.

One of his friends rang Farid’s father when the teen began having problems breathing. Farid was rushed to the Alor Gajah Hospital but died at 6.30pm.

Alor Gajah police chief Superintendent A Asmadi Abd Aziz said checks revealed bee stings on the teen’s left hand. His nails had also turned blue from lack of oxygen.

“His father told us that the victim suffered from asthma ever since he was a boy,” he said.

A post-mortem examination concluded that Farid died from anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction to bee stings that affects breathing.

Asmadi said Farid’s body has since been claimed by his family members for burial.

Police have classified the case as sudden death.
