Honour and respect Dr M's appointment as PM: Daim

KUALA LUMPUR: Everyone must honour and respect Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s appointment as the seventh Prime Minister.

Former Finance Minister Tun Daim Zainuddin said those who were raising their voice and criticising the decision should accept it with an open heart.

He said even PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the party’s president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail had accepted it.

“I have met Anwar, he is a polished politician. Anwar knows what happens at grassroots level well and he understands what is stipulated in the Pakatan Harapan manifesto.

“The manifesto clearly states that Dr Mahathir will become the interim Prime Minister for two years. The people have accepted this,” he said at a press conference after chairing the Council of Eminent Persons meeting.

He also praised Anwar and Dr Wan Azizah for their maturity in appointing Dr Mahathir asthe country’s leader.

Daim said this in response to his previous statement where he said Anwar should not be prime minister just yet.

The two PKR leaders, he said, understood the current political situation.

“However, the youths are the opposite. They have to accept this because this leadership will be the one which helps the party,” he said. --Report by TASNIM LOKMAN, FAHMY AZRIL ROSLI, NURHAYATI ABLLAH and FARAH ADILLA
