Johor govt denies being cruel in terminating village heads

JOHOR BARU: The Johor state government has denied that it was cruel in terminating the services of village heads as the move was one of its restructuring measures.

Menteri Besar Datuk Osman Sapian said in fact those who are eligible and capable could apply to be appointed again if they meet the criteria.

“We are open and the district officers will be conducting the interview with other panel members and not me.

“If we see capable people why should we waste? He can apply and we can take him but if he is not eligible, he should know himself,” he told reporters at a presentation of contribution at As Solehin Mosque in Kempas here today.

Osman said even though they had been terminated, the allowance of RM1,000 each would be paid until the new village heads were appointed.

He was commenting on allegations that the state government was unkind by terminating the contract of 1,700 village heads in the state. — BERNAMA
