Kelantan deputy MB: Give us time to fulfil our pledges

KOTA BARU: Pas needs time to make good the pledges in its 14th general election manifesto.

Among these pledges was the construction of a women only college, which Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said would take a lengthy process.

He said, however, the state government had already carried out several other initiatives, such as aid for beca riders, RM100 aid to students under Yayasan Islam Kelantan and assessment tax exemptions even before GE14.

“The others may take a little while. For instance, the women’s college. We have to come up with a comprehensive working paper. We have five years (to fulfil the pledges made), right? Even the Pakatan Harapan federal government has yet to do anything, with the exception of doing away with GST (Goods and Services Act),” he told reporters after handing out Raya goodies from the state government to members of the security forces.

Amar said the state government had also pledged to improve the employment scheme for teachers under YIK, adding that it was estimated that this process will take up to a year to complete.

At the function, some 13,200 packets of Raya kuih were handed over to 16 agencies, including the armed forces, police, Immigration Department, Customs Department, Border Control Agency, Fire and Rescue Department, Prisons Department, and Civil Defence Force.

Amar said the annual contribution was a sign of the state government’s appreciation to security forces who sacrificed much while on duty.

“Their sacrifice, to look after our security and the peace in the country, is no small thing. In fact, it is priceless. They need to be appreciated because they have to carry out their duties no matter the situation, no matter the time, and many are expected to be away from their families during Raya,” he said.
