Driver killed; wife, two young sons injured in Kinabatangan crash

KINABATANGAN: A journey home to celebrate Aidilfitri ended in tragedy for a family of four when their Mitsubishi Triton collided with a lorry at Km 128 of Jalan Sandakan-Lahad Datu yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Mohd Faizal Shamsudin, 41, who was the driver of the four-wheel-drive vehicle.

Faizal’s wife, Sabaliah Jannary, 34, sustained a broken arm while their 3-year-old son, Mohammad Faiz Rafiq, suffered a head injury.

Their 5-year-old son, Mohammad Faiz Rayyan, who was in the front passenger seat, sustained minor injuries.

It is learnt that the 1.30pm accident occurred when the Mitsubishi entered the opposite lane and collided with the oncoming lorry.

District police chief Superintendent A Sahak Rahmat said Faizal was killed on the spot.

The lorry driver was not injured.

“Family members have claimed the body (of Faizal) and an investigation is being carried out under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said.
