Nufam meets CEP; talks about complaints ignored by previous govt

KUALA LUMPUR: National Union of Flight Attendants Malaysia (Nufam) has urged the government to relook at complaints previously filed by the group on national carrier, Malaysia Airlines (MAS).

Its president Ismail Nasaruddin said the complaints, including the purchase of planes, sacking of staff and losses incurred in the past 10 years, had been ignored by the previous government.

“We are here today to ask the Council of Eminent Persons (CEP) to reopen the cases that we had filed previously.

“We need them to review all the issues, look at wastages, leakages and mismanagement within the airline.

“There were many cases reported but have yet to be investigated. We want to know how MAS suffered such huge losses and where are all the assets,” he told reporters after a meeting with the CEP at Ilham Tower today.

Ismail claimed that Nufam had raised questions on the matter to the previous government.

“(But) we receive no response. Therefore, we hope under the Pakatan Harapan government will be able to look at all these issues.”

Nufam said it was also calling for a change of MAS' board of directors.

“Some of them are still there until today. It does not make sense when the airline is making losses but the same people are still running the show.

“We don't want these political appointees. We want clean and professional people to run the airline.

“We want experts from the aviation industry to be placed there and we also told the council to restore workers’ rights, especially those who are not respresented by the union.”
