IGP: We will wait and see what Najib does

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are adopting a ‘wait and see’ approach with regards to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s statement that he intends to sue the Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID).

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said police have yet to receive any application from Najib over the latter’s claim that the raids and seizure done by the department were in breach of standard operating procedures.

Fuzi said his side are aware of the move by Najib, who had previously filed a civil suit against three senior investigators who were handling the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) investigations.

“For now, we have yet to receive any official documentation from Datuk Seri Najib’s side with regards to the summons. I cannot elaborate more on this matter.

“What’s important is that we wish to see what actually supposedly went against the SOP, as stated by Datuk Seri Najib,” he told a press conference on Tuesday.

Fuzi said police would not be offering any response on Najib’s statement until the investigations are completed.

“He (Najib) can say what he wishes. We are awaiting any follow-up action and official application with regards to this supposed SOP breach.

“This involves the law and he himself has filed a summons, so we (police) will wait and see,” he said.

Najib had previously said that Datuk Seri Amar Singh, who is the Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director, was not qualified to take on probes related to 1MDB. He filed a lawsuit against Amar saying the latter was not qualified to become an advisor of the 1MDB task force and that his integrity could be disputed.

Apart from Amar, two other senior investigators in the 1MDB probe named in the lawsuit are Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull and Attorney-General

Tommy Thomas.

Lawyer Badrul Abdullah, who is representing Najib, said the three individuals had acted in a prejudiced manner towards his client throughout the course of the investigation.
