PEKAN: A 30-year-old man jumped off the Sultan Abu Bakar Bridge today in an apparent suicide attempt over his unrequited love.
Luckily, the man was rescued by passers-by who jumped into the river and brought him to safety.
Apart from suffering a heartbreak, the jilted lover also sustained bruises on his body in the 10am incident.
State Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Anuar Hassan said the man was brought to Pekan Hospital for treatment.
“There were bruises on several parts of his body. However, the cause of his injuries had yet to be determined,” he said when contacted.
Meanwhile, a police spokesman confirmed a report was lodged on the incident.
“We are investigating the case which had been classified under Section 309 of the Penal Code (for attempting to commit suicide),” he said.
