Najib's submission on media gag order begins at KL High Court [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: Proceedings for an interim gag order on the media against discussing the merits of criminal breach of trust and abuse of power criminal cases involving Datuk Seri Najib Razak began at the High Court here this morning.

The former prime minister arrived at the court complex at about 8.50am with two of his children, Nooryana Najwa and Norashman.

Najib, clad in a grey suit, was composed as he entered the dock.

The proceedings began with Najib’s lead counsel, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, delivering his submission by raising several issues.

Among others, he alleged that the prosecution team’s ill-preparedness is unfair to the defence.

“We received documents in compact disc format (but the prosecution team) should have given them in printed format.

“My team spent several days preparing the documents,” he said.

As of 11am, Shafee is in the midst of delivering his proceeding before judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali.

On July 4, the High Court allowed Najib’s application for an interim gag order on the media from discussing the merits of the criminal breach of trust and abuse of power cases against him.

Shafee informed the court that both the defence and prosecution teams exchanged legal documents in relation to the gag order application yesterday.
