Four people believed to be siblings, killed in lorry-car crash

LIPIS: Four people were killed after the car they were travelling in crashed into a trailer at Km 19 of Jalan Lipis-Merapoh, near Padang Tengku here today.

The four passengers believed to be siblings died on the spot in the 9.40am mishap.

It is learnt that one of the victim’s has been identified as Nur Asmida Mohamed, 24, from Kampung Keluat Beris Kubur, Bachok, Kelantan.

State Fire and Rescue Department deputy director Mohd Sani Harul said the Lipis Fire and Rescue Department were alerted about the incident at about 9.53am and a team were deployed to the scene.

“The lorry driver and his assistant escaped unhurt. Four people however, which included three women who were travelling in the Perodua Viva died believed due to the impact of the collision.

“Firemen were forced to use a cutter to release the victims from the mangled vehicle and their bodies were taken to the Lipis Hospital,” he said in a statement.

Meanwhile Kuala Lipis police chief Superintendent Azry Akmar Ayob said the investigating officer was still gathering information on the identity of the victims.
