KOTA KINABALU: Ex- Sabah chief minister Tan Sri Musa Aman has been arrested over his role in a criminal intimidation case involving Sabah Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin.
However, he has since been released on police bail after a remand application against him was rejected by the courts.
Sabah police commissioner Datuk Ramli Din, confirming the arrest, said Musa, who is also Sungai Sibuga assemblyman, was arrested at 10am today.
“(The police) applied for a remand order under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC) but this was rejected by the magistrate (magistrate’s court).
“He will be released on bail as been ordered by the magistrate,” Ramli said in a brief WhatsApp message.
Musa was previously in the United Kingdom to seek medical treatment following the 14th general election.
He returned to Malaysia yesterday via Singapore, arriving at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang.
He was immediately admitted to a private hospital in Selangor yesterday.
Musa, who has yet to be sworn in as an assemblyman, is wanted by police to assist investigations in a criminal intimidation case filed by Tun Juhar.
Meanwhile, Musa’s lawyer Amer Hamzah Arshad said his client had cooperated with the police at all times.
“Tan Sri had requested to have his statement recorded on the night he returned to Malaysia, but the doctor did not allow due to his unstable condition.
“The session was postponed to the next day, but same situation (postponed) happened yesterday, hence it was postponed again to today.
“This morning, the investigating officer came to the ward and arrested him, this was followed by the remand order application in the afternoon.
“The investigating officer informed they need to remand Tan Sri to facilitate investigation under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation,” he told NSTP.
Amer said Magistrate Norshahirah Abd Salim, from Petaling Jaya court, however rejected the application.
He added police had acted professionally and no special treatment was given to Musa.
