#QuranHour on kayak

PARIT: The World #QuranHour programme in Perak was held today with a twist - participants reciting Quran verses in floating kayak on Sungai Perak.

The session, led by solo kayaker Murad Mohd Hashim, saw participation of 20 people who were part of ‘XPDC Kayak Kembara Merdeka Gabungan Malaysia Brunei’ (MALBRUN) held in conjunction with 61th Merdeka Day celebration.

Among the participants were six kayakers from Brunei as well as representatives from Teacher Education Institute’s (IPG) Ipoh campus (eight people) and Ungku Omar Polytechnic (four).

The event, which was live-streamed on Facebook, was held in collaboration with the IPG’s Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s secretariat unit.

Expedition coordinator, Ramli Ahmad Rozali, said the participants started rowing at Kampung Bekor, Kuala Kangsar at 8.45am before stopping at Pulau Tepus and started Quran recital as they float their kayak near the river bank.

“They (participants) were actually on their way to Pulau Misa Melayu (for the expedition) and took the opportunity to recite verses from Quran for one hour from 10.15am,” he said when contacted today.

He said the participants would continue their journey to the next stop in Cempaka Sari before heading to Pulau Misa Melayu (in Bota).
