Four in family killed in Segamat accident, eldest son survives

SEGAMAT: Four in a family, comprising a husband and wife and their two children, died in a horrific crash at KM176 Jalan Johor Bahru - Seremban near Kampung Melayu Raya here on Saturday.

Nizam Othman, 51, was driving the family’s Honda Stream from Labis headed towards Segamat at 1.40pm when the accident occurred.

A trailer, coming from the opposite direction, is believed to have skidded in the heavy rain and crashed headlong into the family’s car.

The crash killed Nizam, his wife Nur Fazlin Jamalludin, 37, and two of their children, Nor Naqia Nizam, 7, and Mohd Niaz Nizam, 2, all of whom died in the vehicle.

However, their eldest son, Mohd Naqib Nizam, 9, survived when the impact of the crash flung him out of the vehicle.

Segamat district police chief, Superintendent Raub Selamat, said the driver of the trailer also survived the crash and was taken to the Segamat Hospital.

A five-man team from the Bandar Baru Segamat Fire and Rescue Department were deployed to the scene. The firemen extricated all the victims from the wreckage by 2.50pm.
