Police on the hunt for cat killers

GOMBAK: Police are appealing for any information to facilitate their probe into the killing of a cat at a laundrette in Taman Gombak Ria on Tuesday.

Gombak district police chief Assistant Commissioner Samsor Maarof said police have launched a manhunt for three suspects, believed to be between 30 and 40 years old.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 428 of the Penal Code for maiming or killing an animal, which provides a fine and imprisonment for up to three years.

He said police have grabbed screenshots of the men, which were obtained from the closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footages at the laundrette.

“We urge members of the public who have seen them or have information on their whereabouts to come forward,” he told the New Straits Times when contacted today.

Anyone with information can contact the investigating officer, Inspector Najmi, at 017-9291359 or visit the nearest police station.

In a 2-minute-50-second-long video shared by the Malaysia Animal Association, two of the suspects were seen picking up a cat from under the table before putting the feline into a dryer.

The two men then left with their clean laundry but came back a few seconds later to put coins into the dryer.

After hitting the ‘start’ button, they both left the premises. Another customer, who came to the laundrette at around 10.30am, found the cat dead and the machine splattered with blood.
