MACC raids Felcra subsidiary over suspicious RM4 mil contracts

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on Tuesday raided a Felcra Bhd subsidiary in Setapak.

MACC officers seized various financial documents as well as those related to training course contracts worth RM4 million, to facilitate the commission’s probe into suspected misappropriation and abuse of power.

A source told NSTP that the raid in Setapak was conducted by 10 MACC officers, who arrived at the office around 9.30am.

At the same time, MACC teams raided another subsidiary in Kelantan, as well as 10 other companies in the East Coast, Klang Valley and Perak, which had received the training course contracts.

Sources said the commission is probing a senior manager in the Felcra subsidiary over suspected abuse of power in appointing at least 10 companies which he had interests in.

“The 53-year-old is alleged to have engaged these companies, which were owned by his family members, in-laws and associates, to supply teachers, training experts and the courses, which were managed by the Felcra subsidiary.

“For now, we are investigating whether the individual had a direct interest in these companies or if he benefited in the form of other rewards,” said the source.

Sources said investigators believe that the abuse of power began in 2014, involving projects valued around RM4 million.

“The raids saw officers reviewing and seizing documents comprising appointment letters and meeting decisions.

“We believe there are more companies involved. The senior manager is also suspected of having received kickbacks from each contract,” said the source.

Meanwhile, MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Seri Azam Baki, when contacted, confirmed the raids.
