KUALA TERENGGANU: Three people, including two students, were killed while three others were injured when their cars collided head-on near Felda Belara last night.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Idris Abdul Rafar said the incident occurred along Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kota Baru near Jalan Pakoh Jaya at 10.26pm.
He said the deceased were identified as Syaifudeen Sobree Abdul Rahman, 24, from Depan Sekolah Kebangsaan Pengkalan Kubor 1, Tumpat, Kelantan and Che Wan Hasbullah Che Wan Zubaidi, 22, from Kampung Baru, Kampung Raja in Besut.
Both were travelling in a Proton Iswara Aeroback.
He added that the third victim, Mohd Kamarul Zaman Asdi, 24, a self-employed, from Kampung Gerdong, Hulu Terengganu, was a front passenger in the second car, a Proton Wira.
All three died on the spot.
“Another student, Nik Muhamad Arif Mohd Afandi, 22, of Lot 1280, Kampung Cherang Ruku, Semerak, Pasir Puteh, Kelantan who was driving the Iswara suffered a broken thigh and head injury while two others in the Wira - Suhaimi Mohd Yusof, 23, from Felda Kerteh 04, Ketengah Jaya, Dungun and Tun Mohd Shuhairy Tun Mat Rani, 21, from Kampung Tok Lawit, Hulu Terengganu suffered head and body injuries.
Idris said the accident occurred when the Wira, heading towards Kuala Terengganu from Sungai Tong, Setiu, lost control and crashed into the Iswara coming from the opposite direction.
“The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road and Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving and causing death.” he said.
