Report lodged against news portal over malicious Project IC 2.0 article

KENINGAU: A retired teacher has lodged a police report against a news portal, which published a malicious article alleging that illegal immigrants were given identity cards.

Peter @ Isong Daigo, 58, lodged the report here this morning.

The article titled “Hundreds throng NRD counter, sparking fear of Project IC 2.0 in Sabah” was published yesterday.

It alleged that foreigners were issued ICs at a programme with Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal at Keningau Community Hall on Friday.

“What is the proof that illegal immigrants were given identity cards?” said the retiree, who added that the news portal should not have spread malicious news, which could cause concern among the people of Sabah.

“It is so easy to throw allegations, but where is the evidence? This is an effort to belittle the government.”

He urged police to investigate the news portal and reporter, so that action could be taken against them.

Yesterday, district officer Yusop Osman rubbished the claim that birth certificates or MyKads were issued to foreigners during the programme with the chief minister.

“There is no logic that the programme had been turned into Project IC 2.0 as spread on social media. The programme was attended by police, lawyers and even Chief Justice of Malaysia Tan Sri Richard Malanjum.

“Illegal immigrants would be arrested by police if they turned up at the programme.”
