One more rep yet to declare assets, says Penang CM

BAYAN LEPAS: Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow today revealed that a state Pakatan Harapan (PH) elected representative has yet to submit his asset declaration form after the June 30 deadline.

He said the rest of the newly-elected representatives managed to submit their forms on time.

Chow said the state government was now waiting for the representative to complete the form before publishing the declaration online as promised.

“We will forward all the documents to the accounting firm for verification, and once verified, we will announce it as how we have done so in the past.

“However, there is still one more person to submit the asset declaration form. There were initially two of them but we settled for a Statutory Declaration with one of them for some very old cars owned by the elected representative.

“We hope to be able to do it (publish) by this month,” he told a press conference here today.

Chow, however, remained coy about the identity of the elected representative.

“We will give the person one last opportunity to do so. If not, we will then make the declaration public.

“We must publish it (asset declaration) regardless of who has yet to submit the form. We have made a promise so we have to honour it,” he added.

He was met by newsmen after delivering his opening speech at the 2018 Promise of Integrity Annual Conference held at Intel Penang here today.

Also present were Transparency International Malaysia president Datuk Akhbar Satar and Ministry of International Trade and Industry secretary-general Datuk Isham Ishak.

Previously, the state government has agreed to declare their elected representatives’ assets before and after the new term begins.

The declaration can be viewed at the Penang state government’s official website at https://www.penang.gov.my.
