Army Veterans Council to be revived

PORT DICKSON: Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu says the Army Veterans Council will be revived to look into the welfare of retired soldiers as well as those still on active duty.

“I was in Sabah for three days with the army and police, visiting our personnel guarding the Malaysia-Philippines border.

“I had a dialogue with our personnel there. They gave their views and despite the lack of equipment, they expressed their commitment to carry out their duties.

“Despite our lack of finances, we will revive the veterans council to look into the welfare of our soldiers, those still on active duty as well as retirees,” Mohamad said in his speech while campaigning for Pakatan Harapan’s candidate for the Port Dickson parliamentary seat, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Prime Minister and PH chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was the main guest of the event.

Among the PH leaders present were PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail; DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng; DAP organising secretary Anthony Loke Siew Fook; and PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

The Port Dickson by-election was called after incumbent Datuk Danyal Balagopal Abdullah vacated the seat to make way for Anwar’s return to parliament.

Anwar is currently locked in a seven-cornered battle. The contenders include former menteri besar Tan Sri Isa Samad and the PKR president-elect’s former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.
