Kit Siang-Najib spat continues; former calls latter 'utterly stupid'

PORT DICKSON: The tit for tat on social media between DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang and former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is showing no signs of letting up.

In his latest salvo, Lim called on Najib to provide a public explanation on why he failed to reopen investigations into a slew of high-profile murder cases during his tenure.

This follows the Pekan MP’s claim that Lim had ceased engaging with him directly on the subject, as he knows the accusation is baseless.

“He should explain why he didn’t reopen investigations as PM,” Lim told reporters at a ceramah hosted by Pakatan Harapan in Lukut here, last night.

He also reiterated that Najib was “talking gibberish and was incoherent” in his arguments on the matter, and added that the former could be preparing for an “insanity plea” for his trials related to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

“I have a feeling that he is utterly stupid, or he doesn’t understand what I am saying or somebody else is writing (his social media posts) for him,” he added.

Lim has been carrying out a campaign to pressure Najib to explain why his administration did not reopen investigations into the murders of Arab-Malaysian Development Bank founder Hussain Ahmad Najadi; Mongolian model Altantuya Shaariibuu; political aide Teoh Beng Hock; and deputy public prosecutor Datuk Anthony Kevin Morais.

He affirmed that he strongly believes there is strong evidence to reopen the probes into each murder case.

On whether he has raised the matter with Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Lim however, told reporters: “I don’t have to tell you how I operate. My position is clear that there should be a reopening of the investigation.”

Earlier, he had said that if he were prime minister, he would reopen the investigations – to which Najib issued a challenge to DAP to influence Dr Mahathir on the matter.

The week-long spat on social media between the Iskandar Puteri MP and Najib has seen Lim blogging that Najib did not kill Teoh, but that his administration must be held responsible for the political aide’s death.

Najib, in turn, said that the Pakatan Harapan’s government’s refusal to conduct special investigations into the same high-profile cases has absolved him from slanderous accusations that have plagued his leadership for years.
