ALOR SETAR: A 15-month old baby boy was rushed to hospital after he was whipped with a cable and had his head smashed against a wall by his stepfather.
The incident took place at a house in Kampung Perak, near here, on Tuesday.
Kota Setar district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Rozi Jidin, said the boy’s mother, fearing for her baby’s safety, then lodged a police report.
The baby sustained bodily injuries and was taken to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) for treatment.
“Police have arrested the man, who is a Myanmar national in his 30s, to assist the investigation,” he said.
Mohd Rozi said the man has been remanded for seven days to aid the investigation under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
Mohd Rozi said the baby is now in stable condition.
