RM1b for digital economy development plan - Lim

KUALA LUMPUR: The government will implement the National Fiberisation and Connectivity Plan (NFCP) with a RM1 billion allocation to develop digital economy, said Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng.

He said the plan was aimed at developing broadband infrastructure in order to ensure effective spectrum distribution.

“In addition, high speed broadband services are targeted to reach 30 Mbsp in rural and remote areas within five years to enable Malaysia to achieve world-class infrastructure at affordable prices.

“The government will also enforce the Mandatory Standard Access Pricing (MSAP) which is expected to lower the price of fixed line broadband at least 25 per cent by the end of 2018,” he said when tabling the Budget 2019 in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Meanwhile, Lim said the government would continue the Film in Malaysia Incentive (FIMI) with an allocation of RM30 million to encourage the production of world-class film.

In addition, he said Khazanah would provide a RM100 million allocation for FIMI specifically for film production at the Pinewood studio in Iskandar Johor.

To develop and promote E-Sports, Lim said the government would allocate RM10 million to the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC).– Bernama
