Rani Kulup wants stern action against those who distribute Bible to students

KUALA LUMPUR: Six non-governmental organisations (NGO) lodged a police report on allegations that Bibles were distributed to students outside a secondary school in Bukit Mertajam, Penang.

The report was jointly made at the Sentul district police headquarters by Pertubuhan Martabat Jalinan Muhibbah Malaysia (MJMM), Ikatan Rakyat Insan Muslim Malaysia (IRIMM), Amanah Rahsia Cekal (ARC), Gerak Kerja Gabungan Ayahanda Selangor (Gegas), Reformis and Kipidap.

IRIMM president Amir Amsaa Alla Pitchay claimed the distribution of the Christian religious book to students after school hours was malicious and disrespectful of the Muslims in the country.

"This shows bad intention on their part to lead the Muslims in this country astray as well as disrupting the peace and harmony of this country.

"We urge the police, Ministry of Education and the Islamic department to take stern action against the individuals who are attempting to disrupt the harmony in this country," he said when met, here, today.

Meanwhile, MJMM president Abdul Rani Kulup Abdullah said the act of distributing the Bibles was rude and disrespectful of the Muslim community in Malaysia.

"They were allegedly distributing dictionaries, but turns out the books were Bibles. The authorities must take stern action against this sensitive matter," he said.

Yesterday, Deputy Penang Chief Minister I Datuk Ahmad Zakiyuddin Abdul Rahman reportedly said the allegation was being investigated by the Penang Islamic Affairs Department, the state Education Department and the police.

Last weekend, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa said he received information from the state Islamic department, Education Department and Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim Chee Keong on the allegation that went viral on social media recently.
