IPOH: Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Nga Kor Ming has rubbished claims that he had received a donation from a business tycoon prior to the 14th general election.
“All the reports made to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Kuala Lumpur yesterday are untrue.
“In fact, (the businessman who allegedly made the donation) Koon (Yew Yin) has already made an open apology (against me for making the claim),” he said.
Nga was commenting on the two reports lodged with the MACC by lawyer Mohd Khairul Azam Abdul Aziz, over possible elements of corruption involving Koon and several individuals within the Perak government.
Mohd Khairul claimed that he lodged the reports based on a Nov 2 article published on Koon’s blog, titled ‘Perak Sultan has no right to stop my appointment as economic adviser’.
He said the article, which has since been removed by Koon, saw the businessman admitting to having donated hundreds of thousands of ringgit to Pakatan Harapan parties, in return for him being appointed as the Perak economic advisor.
Mohd Khairul was quoted as saying that the MACC should investigate Nga, who allegedly personally received RM300,000, as claimed in Koon’s second article dated Nov 5.
The lawyer said he managed to screen shot the articles before they were removed by the author.
Nga, who is also Perak DAP chairman, said Koon had apologised to him on Nov 6.
In his letter of apology, Koon, who is also the founder of one of the country’s largest construction firms, had sought Nga’s forgiveness for penning the article.
Meanwhile, Perak DAP Youth chief, Howard Lee Chuan How, said they do not see the allegations as an issue, as Koon had already apologised.
“This involves one individual and another. I’m told that it has nothing to do with political parties, the state government or the Federal government.
“It’s not something I should comment on as the person who made the allegation has already closed the case. If the lawyer (Mohd Khairul) wants to pursue it, he is free to do so but I feel that the issue is settled,” he said.
