KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Education has announced the appointments of three new deputy vice-chancellors for Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM).
Associate Professor Dr Mohd Fozi Ali has been named deputy vice-chancellor (Development) – a newly created post at UiTM – effective from Nov 1 this year to Oct 31, 2021.
Professor Datuk Dr Rahmat Mohamad will be taking on the post of deputy vice-chancellor (Industry, Community, Alumni and Entrepreneurship Network) from Nov 15 until Nov 14, 2021; while Professor Dr Mohd Nazip Suratman, the deputy vice-chancellor (Research and Innovation), from Nov 15 until Nov 14, 2021.
Mohd Fozi, who was previously the assistant vice-chancellor of infrastructure and info-structure at UiTM’s main campus in Shah Alam, holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, United Kingdom. He has held the positions of senior civil engineer and hydrologist in the UK.
Among the positions he has held during his tenure at UiTM include the UiTM’s Penang campus rector and the deputy dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering.
In his new position, Mohd Fozi is expected to enhance the quality of the infrastructure comprising UiTM's resources and assets across Malaysia covering 21 satellite campuses, 13 UiTM state campuses and its main campus in Shah Alam – supporting teaching, learning and research activities while preparing all campuses for the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era.
Rahmat is a prominent figure in the world of education and law in Malaysia with a Doctor of Philosophy degree from University of Aberystwyth, UK. He began his career as a legal executive in 1984. In addition to being a lecturer, he also held various administrative positions in UiTM before being appointed as Secretary-General of the Asia-Africa Legal Consultative Organization from 2008 to 2016.
With his experience in intergovernmental organisations, it is hoped that UiTM's visibility in the international arena be strengthened and enhanced through strategic efforts and linkages with its stakeholders.
Mohd Nazip, who previously was a rector of UiTM’s Pahang campus holds a PhD in Forest Resources Management from the University of British Columbia, Canada.
He started his career in UiTM as a lecturer in 1988, and he has gone on to hold the posts of the head of the university's Strategic Planning Centre, deputy dean of the Faculty of Applied Science and UiTM’s Pahang campus deputy rector.
During his tenure at UiTM, he has been very active in publishing books, conducting research, obtaining national and international grants and publishing hundreds of articles in refined journals and conference proceedings. Among others, his main field of research include remote sensing technology for forest application.
His appointment is hoped to further enhance the quality of research and innovation activities that contribute to the well-being and survival of the community.
According to Emeritus Professor Datuk Dr Hassan Said, UiTM vice-chancellor, the university is honoured with the appointments announced by the ministry and expressed his hope that it will realise the goal of making UiTM distinguished both locally and internationally.
"UiTM also wishes to take this opportunity to record the highest appreciation for services rendered by Professor Ir Dr Abdul Rahman Omar, former deputy vice-chancellor (Research and Innovation) and Professor Dr Zaini Abdullah, former deputy vice-chancellor (Industry, Community and Alumni Network) in uplifting UiTM to the level it is today," he said.
