'All banks in Malaysia must have three core values'

MUAR: Every banking institution in Malaysia, including Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd, must have three main core values - integrity, excellent service and future planning in order to empower the country’s economy.

Energy, Science, Technology, Environment & Climate Change Minister Yeo Bee Yin said these three core values was practiced at her ministry.

“Whether at the ministry or at this bank, the most important thing is to have integrity so that we can manage the people’s finances well. Secondly, all banks, especially Bank Muamalat, must provide excellent service in order to give satisfaction to customers.

“Thirdly, with regards future planning, we sometimes forget that we are heading towards an uncertain future, so we need to prepare society and our customers to face that future.

“As a bank, we need to think five or 10 years ahead about what is the landscape of the industry and the Malaysian and world economy. Therefore, we need to plan so that our organisations are ready to face that landscape,” said Yeo in her speech at the opening of the Bank Muamalat Muar branch at Bakri Business Centre here.

Also present were Bank Muamalat chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Redza Shah Abdul Wahid, head of banking operations division Mohd Yassin Yaacob, and southern region manager Mohd Zamri Pardi.

In conjunction with the opening, Yeo also presented Bank Muamalat’s contribution of RM1,000 each to 10 mosques, surau and non-governmental organisations in the district.

Yeo, who is also Bakri Member of Parliament, said besides being a leader in Islamic banking in the country, Bank Muamalat also needed to be a pioneer in green banking not only in Malaysia but also the region.

“I feel that Islamic banking will play a role in green banking, especially in the green industry in Malaysia and Southest Asian region in the future.

“Therefore, I would encourage Bank Muamalat and the people, when looking at industry or business, to look beyond Malaysia to the Southeast Asian, Asia Pacific and the world market.

“The most important thing is our first step in becoming the leader in Islamic and green finance in Asia,” said Yeo.

Meanwhile, Mohd Redza Shah said the opening of the latest Bank Muamalat branch in Muar, which is the 10th in Johor and the 64th in the country, would provide the people and businesses with an option to explore new markets in line with the rapid expansion of the economy in the district.

“At the same time, Bank Muamalat also offers financial facilities to the government and private sectors in the area to conduct financial transactions and generate economic progress in the area.

“Besides consumer banking like deposit accounts, Ar-Rahnu services, personal, housing and vehicle loans, we also provide facilities like corporate banking, treasury market, commercial banking Gold-i Muamalat and a comprehensive financial management service from birth to death,” said Mohd Redza Shah.
