Khalid: If MACC uncovers corruption, Taman Rimba Kiara project will be stopped

KUALA LUMPUR: Federal Territories Minister Khalid Samad says the condominium project in Taman Rimba Kiara (TRK) within Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI), here, will be stopped should investigations uncover elements of abuse of power and corruption in awarding the project.

Speaking at a press conference at the Parliament lobby, here, today, Khalid said the TRK project was being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), together with 97 other projects in Kuala Lumpur.

”If the MACC finding reveals there were elements of abuse of power and corruption, this whole project will be considered illegal,” he said, adding that he was not privy to further information, expressing hope that the MACC would speed up the investigation.

Also present at the press conference was Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh.

Meanwhile, Khalid announced the setting up of a joint committee for TRK which he would head.

Others in the committee are DBKL mayor Datuk Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan, Yeoh, TTDI Residents' Association, Bukit Kiara Public Housing and Longhouses associations, Rukun Tetangga and the developer Memang Perkasa Sdn Bhd.

TTDI residents are protesting the proposed TRK development as they fear their “last green lung” in the area would be in jeopardy.

The proposed development — a joint venture between Memang Perkasa and Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan (YWP) — comprises eight blocks of luxury serviced apartments, between 42 and 54 levels with 1,800 units.

It also includes a 29-storey block featuring 350 affordable apartments with 200 units reserved for the relocation of the longhouse families.

DBKL had, in 2016, approved the housing development on a 4.86ha land in TRK, which is designated as a public open space under the Kuala Lumpur City Plan 2020.

Meanwhile, Yeoh said the TTDI Residents' Association failed to get a judicial review yesterday in court on the project.

”The court rejected the judicial review and said the development order on the project is legal,” she said, adding a town hall was also held with the residents on the next option and solution.
