MACHANG: Rahim Yusoff was born with just three fingers attached to his shoulders, but that has not stopped him from making a living as a tailor.
The 51-year-old, who is based at a shop in Pulai Chondong, here, said he was grateful to have two normal legs and feet, which he used to sew.
“I was born with two small fingers on my right shoulder and another finger on my left shoulder,” said Rahim who started sewing 30 years ago.
“Although I was born like this, I am grateful that I have two normal legs.
“With these legs I have been able to make money to support my family.”
Rahim, who has three children aged 4 to 14 years, is fondly known locally as `Paksu Mie’.
“I earn at least RM30 a day. My clients like to send their clothes to me because I can complete a baju Melayu or woman’s clothing in a day at RM90 each.
“I also repair jeans and dresses for only RM5 each.”
Rahim and his wife, Noraishah Hamzah, 44, who is half-paralysed, receive RM400 in monthly assistance from the state Welfare Department.
“I want to prove to the public that even though we are disabled, my wife and I can still survive and be independent like other people,” he said.
