Muhyiddin: Do more for Malays, Bumiputeras

PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin believes that more should be done for the Malays and Bumiputeras on the heels of Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) victory in the 14th General Election (GE14).

The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president said: “We have to admit that the Malays are still backward in many aspects.

“We need to help them as said by (prime minister) Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, or else we will lose their support.

“The people still need to be convinced. I have relatives in Muar who still feel the pinch (from cost of living). They said they thought after PH won, life would be easier. Not harder.”

Muhyiddin said the party would explain its stand at its second general assembly, from Dec 28 to 30.

“We want to tell the people about our objectives. Yes, we are a race-based party, but we are not racist.

“We want to tell people about our policies for Malays and Bumiputera communities, and we are not neglecting non-Bumiputeras.”

Muhyiddin described the assembly as a “significant” affair as it would be the first to be held after GE14.

He said an estimated 1,600 delegates were expected to attend the assembly, and save for the debates, other events would be open to the media.

“The debates will be held behind closed doors, because some sensitive matters may be mentioned.“
