Sarawak approves RM30 million for houses of worship

KUCHING: Sarawak government has approved RM30 million allocation to assist in the construction and repair of houses of worship in the state.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah said the amount was allocated for next year, which was an increase of RM10 million compared to this year.

“This year the state government spent RM20 million on 231 projects benefiting religious institutions of various religions and denominations.

“Last year, a total of RM15 million was allocated for 77 projects. Thus, we can see that the amount is increasing every year, ” he said.

Speaking to reporters after a cheque presentation ceremony at Wisma Bapa here for five houses of worship, Uggah said the Unit For Other Religions (UNIFOR) under the Chief Minister’s Department also helped to coordinate and facilitate site for the houses of worship.

He urged the project and religious committee to ensure the fund would be spent wisely while the elected representatives needed to monitor the projects to ensure they could be implemented successfully.

Uggah handed over cheques for five projects amounting RM560,000, involving Nangka state constituency, Mulu and Tanjung Datu.
