BELURAN: The long journey for villagers from Kampung Abuan and Waigon to go to town for the purpose of registering their children's births has been cut short with the recent mobile court services being offered.
The services were made available in conjunction with the mobile court programme organised by the Sandakan Court at both villages.
The two-day programme that began on Dec 7, which was led by Sabah and Sarawak Chief Justice Datuk David Wong Dak Wah, benefitted 30 families from Kampung Abuan and 20 from Kampung Waigon.
Also joining the programme were High Court judge Bexter Agas Michael, Sessions Judge Ummu Khaltom Abdul Samad and First Class Magistrate Sofia S Sawayan.
Wong, in a statement said, the visit was meant to allow villagers who had failed to register births within 42 days to do so.
He added applicants who obtained approval for their birth certificates could apply for their Malaysian Identity Card from the National Registration Department (NRD).
“Everytime we go to the interiors of Sabah or Sarawak, we know their hardship," Wong said, encouraging for the services to be continued to assist those in the interiors.
