Colleagues pay homage to fireman Adib

SUBANG JAYA: Co-workers today paid homage to fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim who died at the National Heart Institute at 9.41pm yesterday.

The 24-year-old fireman was severely injured during the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman temple riot in Subang Jaya on Nov 27.

One of Adib’s co-workers, Mohamad Khairul Mohd Fauzi, 25, said the Fire and Rescue Department had lost a valued member of its staff.

“I hope Adib’s family members will be patient and strong,” he said at the Subang Jaya fire station today.

“We appreciate your (Adib) contributions and will continue your fight.

“I am sad that I cannot attend his funeral in his hometown, Kuala Kedah, because we need to standby.”

Describing Adib as shy, kind and honest, Khairul said: “He was reserved if you were not close to him. But, he would share his stories and rescue experiences when he got to know you better.”

Khairul said he noticed that Adib’s wedding invitation card had gone viral on social media.

“He invited us to attend his wedding, but I told him I might not be able make it as it would depend on our roster,” he said.

Adib’s housemate and co-worker Muhamad Ikhwan Che Mohd Daroh, 25, said he would always remember Adib’s smile.

“He was a shy and reserved man. He didn’t talk much,” said Ikhwan.

“I would greet him and joke with him. I liked it when he smiled and responded to my jokes.

“He cared about his colleagues and housemates.”
