Number of Sabah flood victims soars to 2,607

KOTA KINABALU: Flooding in five districts in the state continues to worsen, with more people being forced to flee their homes.

As of noon today, 2,607 people have been evacuated to 19 flood relief centres across the state.

This compares to 2,555 victims as of 8am.

The two latest centres to be opened are in the Paitan district.

Kota Marudu remains the hardest-hit district, with 2,470 victims from 518 families, followed by Pitas (27), Matunggong (24), Kota Belud (26) and Sipitang (12), a spokesman for the Sabah Civil Defence Department said.

The areas were inundated with floodwaters following non-stop rain since Friday.
