Khalid reveals 2 more land encroachment cases

PUTRAJAYA: Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad today revealed two more cases of government land being encroached on.

One of them involves the Tun Abdul Ghafar Baba Complex, which is sited on a 0.32ha plot, at Lot 33600, off Jalan Kuchai Jaya 1 in Petaling. The company that built it was issued a development order (DO) on April 25, 2017.

The other involves Dewan Shazac Bistari Yayasan Wangsa Perdana Complex at Lot 27679 off Jalan Gombak in Setapak, which was developed on a 0.28ha plot.

“We give the developers until the end of February to get in touch with the Kuala Lumpur Land and Minerals Office as well as City Hall.

“We are open to discuss the matter with the developers to find ways to resolve the matter, either to take over the buildings or sell them (the plots). “We are also collecting input from nearby residents on the best solution to resolve the matter.”

Asked what action would be taken against the officers who issued the DO to build the Tun Abdul Ghafar Baba Complex, Khalid said the ministry was looking into the matter.

He said some of the officers had already retired.

Khalid said the ministry would continue to review “suspicious” development projects on government land in Kuala Lumpur that could involve embezzlement or abuse of power.

The minister also vowed to eliminate Kuala Lumpur City Hall “cartel” projects.

“We have found that many projects were secured by the same companies,” he added.

Recently, Khalid disclosed that two plots of government-owned land, lots 568 and 716, in Medan Imbi had been encroached on.

Reports have been lodged with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

Questions have risen over how a private company was able to develop a six-storey office building and several durian kiosks on the two plots of government land valued at RM20 million in Medan Imbi, Bukit Bintang in 2016, without paying “a single sen” in rent or premium.

It was reported that the company has been collecting rent from tenants with no revenue going to City Hall.

It has been instructed by the Kuala Lumpur Land and Minerals Office to vacate the land by Jan 10. But, the company has yet to do so.
