Marzuki defends his degree qualification, leaves investigation on its authenticity to police

GEORGE TOWN: Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Marzuki Yahya said that he will leave it to the police in their probe involving the legitimacy of his degree from Cambridge University, England.

He will bring evidence of his degree to the police when necessary while stressing that reports over the legitimacy of his qualification amounted to a political play.

“It is a political play, this is normal, we have been facing as such (accusations) since we were the opposition.

“I will leave it to the police to investigate the report and I do not want to comment further on that. I will provide the evidence and will let the police to probe,” he said.

He was speaking to reporters after attending Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng’s Chinese New Year Open House celebration at the Setia Spice Convention Centre here today.

Recently, a political activist Muhsin Abdul Latheef lodged a police report urging them to investigate the legitimacy of a deputy minister’s degree obtained from the England based university.

It was believed that he was referring to Marzuki based on a Facebook post which raised questions about the deputy minister’s academic credentials.

The posting revealed that the institution did not offer any degree courses through long-distance programmes.

Meanwhile, Marzuki, who is also the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia secretary-general, hit out at Datuk Seri Najib Razak for questioning on whether Pakatan Harapan will gain a bigger majority win the Semenyih by-election.

“He is just trying to gain support and deny the truth while not accepting the fact.

“This is his personal opinion. We in Pakatan Harapan will work together to ensure Semenyih is ours,” he added.
