Four top cops retiring, not resigning, says Deputy IGP

KUALA LUMPUR: Four high-ranking officers from the police force will retire in stages beginning next month and are not resigning as alleged by some quarters, says Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim.

“Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd will be the first to retire on March 15, followed by me two days later.

“Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh will retire in April, followed by IGP Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun ini May,” he said at the closing ceremony of the police's Counselling Colloquium here today.

Recently, there were rumours spreading via WhatsApp that four senior police officers would resign at the same time soon.

In another development, asked about the police report lodged by Pas Youth claiming that DAP had received foreign funds, he said: “I have not had a chance to review the report. I have no problems with receipt of foreign funds, but we will investigate what it was for and so on.”

Earlier, the 70 police officers from throughout the country who took part in the two-day colloquium were recognised as police counsellors.

Noor Rashid said all the officers, who were mostly from the Integrity and Standard Compliance Department, would be responsible for providing counselling services to all police personnel identified as facing stress problems.

He said that although the level of depression among members of the police force was not too high, the first counselling colloquium should be turned into an annual programme to raise the team’s expertise in the field. -- BERNAMA
