Marzuki's petition struck out; Shabudin retains Tasek Gelugor seat

GEORGE TOWN: The Special Election Court has struck out an election petition filed by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s (Bersatu) Datuk Marzuki Yahaya for a vote recount in the Tasek Gelugor parliamentary seat poll in the 14th general election.

Following the announcement this morning, incumbent Datuk Shabudin Yahya retains his post as the constituency’s Member of Parliament.

The matter was decided in chambers before judge Datuk Hashim Hamzah. However, neither Marzuki nor Shabudin was present.

Marzuki, who is Penang Bersatu chairman and Deputy Foreign Minister, filed the petition last June seeking a by-election to be held for the Tasek Gelugor seat.

He also sought a recount of votes in accordance with the Elections (Conduct of Elections) Regulations 1981, whereby a candidate is entitled to request a recount when results show a difference of less than four per cent between candidates.
