IPOH: All schools in Perak had been advised to reduce outdoor activities to avoid the possibility of heat stroke among school children following the current hot weather in the state.
Chairman of the state Education, Technology, Science and Environment committee Abd Aziz Bari said the State Education Department had asked all schools to reduce outdoor activities so that students are not exposed to the hot weather for too long.
“Pupils, especially those who have been exposed to hot weather for too long, are more prone to heat stroke. I hope teachers will ensure all outdoor activities are kept to a minimum.
“There are some schools which have started a campaign to drink warm water. Such campaigns will help during the current hot weather,” he said in a statement here today.
Abd Aziz added that parents can also do their part by encouraging their children to drink more water and to limit the time spent outdoors.
Temperature in 10 areas in peninsular Malaysia for the next three days have been categorised as stage one, which is the alert phase.
According to the official web page of the Malaysian Meteorological Department at 11 am today, these areas include Chuping (Perlis), Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Sik (Kedah), Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar and Kinta (Perak). - Bernama
