437 students achieve straight As in Negri Sembilan

SEREMBAN: A total of 437 students out of 14,548 candidates in the state who sat for the 2018 SPM examination achieved straight As.

State Education director Datuk Pkharuddin Ghazali said of the total, 20 students or 0.14 per cent obtained the most excellent grade of A+ for all their subjects.

He said that the overall performance had shown an improvement, with the state average grade (GPN) recorded at 4.67, compared to 4.71 in 2017.

“A total of 12,542 or 86.2 per cent of the candidates are eligible to receive their certificates compared to 13,344 or 84.3 per cent in 2017.

"In 2018 there were 14,548 candidates who sat for the exam at 115 schools, a decrease of 1,281 from 15,829 the previous year," he said during a press conference held at Sekolah Menengah Sains Tuanku Munawir, here today.

Pkharuddin said the GPN candidate's achievement in the city dropped by 0.02 points at 4.67 compared to 4.65 in 2017.

"The performance of candidates in rural areas increased by 0.14 points, which is 4.69 compared to 4.83 in the previous year.

The gap between urban and rural differences has been narrowed from 0.18 points in 2017 to 0.02 points last year," he said.
