IPOH: Despite her chronic vision problems that have been affecting her learning process, Noor Ashykin Huda Mustafa from Sekolah Agama Bantuan Kerajaan (SABK) Al-Falah in Parit Buntar persevered to do well in her studies.
The 18-year-old, who suffers from vision impairment on her left eye since she was born, scored 6A, 2B and 1C for her Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) which included additional subjects such as Arabic Language, Al-Quran studies, Al-Sunnah and Syariah Islamic.
“Even though I have a vision problem, it didn’t stop me from doing what others can. I just need to put in the extra time.
“Usually, my friends would join me and we revised topics for certain subjects for two and three hours a day. However, I would start earlier at 4.30am.
Ashykin said she found inspirations from success stories of people with similar predicaments.
“Their success inspired me to push myself hard, so I set up a challenge so that I can be as successful. Not just for me, but also for my parents because I want to make them proud,” said Ashykin, who wants to be a lawyer.
Meanwhile, Dizureen Bellyana from Sekolah Menengah Sains Tapah, said her hard work and perseverance paid off when she obtained 8As and 1B.
“I worked hard for Additional Mathematics which I usually failed at exams, and managed to get a B,” said the student who was from the Orang Asli community.
“My wish is to see more Orang Asli people do great things and become successful,” said Dizureen who wanted to be an engineer.
Noor Ashykin Huda and Dizureen were met at the announcement of SPM results 2018 at state Education Department here today.
Perak Education Department deputy director Mohd Rosli Ahmad said a total of 624 candidates out of 30,355 students who sat for the examination in Perak scored straight As, a slight decline compared to the 734 straight-A students in 2017.
“The State Average Grade (GPN) for 2018 is 5.07 compared to 4.98 in 2017; a decrease of 0.03 points. A large number of candidates who obtained excellent results last year consisted of those who sat for nine or 10 subjects.
“They comprised 241 candidates who took nine subjects, 262 (10 subjects), 102 (11 subjects) and 12 (12 subjects),” he said.
