A footage allegedly from a headcam worn by one of the shooters during the incident today is being shared online after it was said that the shooter live-streamed 17 minutes of the heinous act.

Shooters today opened fire on civilians at two mosques in Christchurch; the Al Noor Mosque and the Linwood Mosque.

Both locations remain on lockdown, according to New Zealand Police.

"We can confirm there have been a number of fatalities. We cannot at this stage confirm the precise number but it is significant," it said.

Meanwhile, they confirm that four people have been taken into custody so far; three men and a woman.

"Police are still treating this incident as ongoing and Christchurch residents are strongly urged to stay indoors and keep safe, and monitor the Police website and social media for further information.

"We continue to utilise every possible resource to resolve the situation," the New Zealand Police added.

All mosques in New Zealand have also been told to shut their doors with the police advising people to refrain from visiting these premises until further notice.
