Remains of two Malaysians killed in Lombok earthquake arrive home

SEPANG: The remains of two Malaysian women who were killed in an earthquake-triggered landslide in Lombok, Indonesia on Sunday, arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) here, today.

The bodies of Datin Tai Siew Kim – Sin Chew Daily’s deputy executive editor-in-chief – and Lim Sai Wah were flown from Jakarta on Garuda flight GA816, which landed here at 5.19pm, Bernama reported.

At 6pm, the remains were transported to the airport’s cargo complex where they were received by Sin Chew Daily’s management team, and the two women’s family members and friends.

Also present to pay his last respects was Transport Minister Anthony Loke, who thanked Wisma Putra and all parties involved in helping bring back the women’s remains.

Many wept as priests conducted prayers on site, before the bodies were transported out of KLIA at 6.45pm.

It is learnt that Tai’s body was taken to the Nirvana Memorial Park in Sungai Besi, Kuala Lumpur; while Lim’s remains were conveyed to Jementah, Segamat, Johor.

The two women had been among 22 Malaysian tourists trapped at Lombok’s Tiu Kelep Senaru waterfall after two earthquakes triggered a major landslide in the area.

Seven other Malaysians were hurt in the incident – four of whom are still being treated at a hospital on the tourist island.
