Woman arrested for allegedly abusing adopted daughter

SHAH ALAM: Selangor police have arrested a woman who was seen repeatedly kicking her seven-year-old adopted daughter in a video that went viral yesterday.

Selangor Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Fadzil Ahmat said the 30-year-old woman, who is from Damansara Damai in Petaling Jaya, was detained at about 5pm today.

“The Selangor CID arrested the woman at a restaurant in Jalan Sungai Tua, Batu Caves. Our initial investigations showed that the incident may have happened at Angsana Apartment, Taman Raintree in Batu Caves last year.

“The woman was married to the victim’s uncle but they divorced earlier this year. She would often hit the victim whenever she wanted to vent her frustrations,” said Fadzil in a statement today.

Investigations are being carried out under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act for child abuse.

Fadzil said the woman will be remanded to facilitate investigations.

He also said a police report was lodged by an individual who had watched the video today.

In the 23-second video, a woman is heard saying ‘Ini anak engkau kan’ as she repeatedly screamed and kicked the girl, who sat with her head on her knees.
