Sepang bus tragedy: 'My brother-in-law had no problems'

SERDANG: S. Suresh was a father of three and before the fatal bus accident last night, he picked up his children from his brother-in-law's house in Nilai.

Suresh was the driver of the bus and died at the scene of the accident which took place near the MAS Cargo Complex, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) along Jalan S8 Pekeliling in Sepang last night.

His brother-in-law S Sathiaseelan, 43, said Suresh arrived at his home in Taman Desa Cempaka, Nilai at about 8.30pm to pick up his three children.

"My brother-in-law had no problems, before leaving for work last night, he dropped by my house to pick up his children who took tuition lessons from my wife," he said.

Sathiaseelan added that they chatted for a bit and Suresh excused himself at about 10.30pm.

Barely two hours later, Sathiaseelan said he received a call from a relative informing that Suresh had been in an accident and had passed away.

"We live in the same residential area. Almost every night, Suresh's three children aged between 8 and 12 would be sent to my house for their studies.

"He did not show any changes (in behaviour). He only told me he had to go to work before leaving," Sathiaseelan said when met at the Serdang Hospital's Forensics Department, here, today.

He said Suresh had been working as a bus driver for over ten years and had never been involved in an accident.

At the moment, Sathiaseelan along with other family members are waiting for the post-mortem to complete before taking Suresh's body to be cremated in Nilai.

The cremation is expected to be carried out tomorrow.

The accident saw the factory bus plunging into a 10-metre-deep storm drain at about 11.10pm last night.

The death toll in the crash now stands at 11.

Nine including Suresh died at the scene while another two succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.

The victims are made up of Malaysians, Nepalese, Bangladeshis and Indonesians.

The bus was ferrying contract workers to the MAS Cargo Complex from their hostel in Nilai, Negri Sembilan, when the driver was said to have lost control of the vehicle.
