New Johor exco line-up to be revealed soon, says Dr Sahruddin

JOHOR BARU: Johor will have a new line-up of the state executive council following the appointment of Dr Sahruddin Jamal as the state's 17th Menteri Besar.

In his maiden press conference as the Johor Menteri Besar, Dr Sahruddin confirmed that a reshuffle of the present state executive council will take place and that he has a period of 14 days to finalise the changes.

The Bukit Kepong assemblyman, 43, however, was confident that he could meet the deadline to reveal the new line-up in the state executive council.

“When there is a change in the leadership, of course there will be a change in the (state) Exco line-up.

“(Former Menteri Besar) Datuk Osman (Sapian) has his own team and I have mine.

“I will choose those I am comfortable working with. And there will be a change in the portfolios too,” said Dr Sahruddin.

He was speaking to reporters after the swearing-in ceremony of the new Menteri Besar, which was held at Istana Bukit Serene, here, this morning.

Osman, Johor Parti Amanah Negara chairman Aminolhuda Hassan, state DAP chairman Liew Chin Tong as well as state PKR deputy chairman Jimmy Puah were present.

Osman, during his tenure as the Menteri Besar, was also handling the state’s natural resources, administration, finance, planning and economic development portfolios.

Prior to his appointment as Osman’s successor, Dr Sahruddin was the state Health, Environment and Agriculture Committee chairman.

Dr Sahruddin added he will ensure that the people will continue to benefit from the development initiatives that have been planned for Johor.

Earlier, Dr Sahruddin was announced as the 17th Johor Menteri Besar replacing Osman who resigned last week.

He was sworn in before Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar during the ceremony, which began at 9.30 am.

Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim was also in attendance during the ceremony.

“I will try to carry out my duties to the best of my abilities and make sure that Johor continues to progress and the lot of the people will continue to be improved,” said Dr Sahruddin.
